Creating a Public Enemy Number 1 chat community
Join me in an experiment in making "Public Enemy Number 1" a bit more fluid. It's totally optional and whether we keep doing it depends on if we like it.
With Elon imploding Twitter like a post-Nicole Daytona Beach condo, I think many of us are thinking about a post-twitter era.
With that in mind, I want to try out the Substack’s new chat feature. It’s a conversation space solely available to Public Enemy Number 1 subscribers who use the Substack app.
PE1 has a very unusual mix of national, state, and local readers because I write from the ground up, I think, trying to connect huge forces to lived experiences in communities, starting with my own. It might be fun to chat informally. So I want to try this out.
I am very conscious, however, of not wanting to annoy anyone. I’m grateful for all readers and subscribers. This WILL NOT intrude on your email in-box.
This is totally voluntary (an opt-in); and it’s only even an option for people using the Substack app. And for now, it only works for iOS devices.
To join our chat, you’ll need to download the Substack app (messages are sent via the app, not email). Here’s how it works.
How to get started
Download the app by clicking this link or the button below. Chat is only on iOS for now, but chat is coming to the Android app soon.
Open the app and tap the Chat icon. It looks like two bubbles in the bottom bar, and you’ll see a row for my chat inside.
That’s it! Jump into my thread to say hi, and if you have any issues, check out Substack’s FAQ.
Android user here. Looking forward the app being available for us also.
Sure wish I could hop in and say Howdy - but I'm an Android user.
Will wait until the app's available for us apostates, I guess...
