Bridget Ziegler should resign or publicly explain. She deserves zero moral mercy until she does.
Fellow Sarasota board members should publicly ask Mrs. "anti-porn, Moms 4 Liberty," to her face, if she willingly took part in same sex pornography with her husband, who is now accused of rape.
If I were a Sarasota County School Board Member, here’s what I would say at the next meeting to my fellow board member and “Moms for Liberty” co-founder Bridget Ziegler about Thrupple-gate and her gross husband’s rape allegation:
Mrs. Ziegler, I don’t know if you enjoy sex with women in the company of your husband. I don’t know if your husband created video pornography of the sex and later raped your female threesome partner when you weren’t around. If he did, I certainly hope she’s not pregnant because your party is going to force her to give birth to his fetus.
I do know that you and your husband are endlessly cruel and gross toward people whose sexuality or identity you claim to despise. I do know that you made the Proud Boys — the foot soldier organization of January 6 — part of your School Board campaign. And I do know that you hate public education and do everything you can to disrupt and destroy it by attacking librarians as pornographers, teachers as groomers, and normal people as enemies deserving of any insult you can hurl at them. I do know you’ve made other people’s sex and love the cornerstone of your political identity.
I do know that your alleged thrupple female sex partner filed a police report on this incident roughly two months ago, on Oct. 4. I know that the story broke on Nov. 30. And I know you’ve said nothing about it. Why? That’s never been a problem for you before, has it?
If other people’s sex was the cornerstone of my public politics, and I knew someone was lying about my own sexual behavior to police, you better believe I’d be screaming about it from the moment I found out about it. You aren’t.
So let me ask, you, Mrs. Moms 4 Liberty: Is the alleged victim lying about you and your husband — from thrupple to porn creation to rape? If you can’t answer that question, you have no business on this dais.
You’ve publicly told us and the public — again and again — how important sexuality and sexual purity is to you and the children of Florida, how important it should be to school boards, how important it is to Ron DeSantis. Why are you silent if this is all a hoax or lie?
I apologize to the public. I would never ask these questions of any normal elected official. Normal people give and deserve public grace in their personal lives and behavior. And everyone is entitled to legal protection when accused of a crime.
But you’re not normal, Bridget. And your crimes, if they exist, are moral and political. They deserve no mercy in the political and moral space you occupy. Their punishment is ridicule, shame, hopefully banishment from public life. It’s time for you to reap what you’ve sown with your cruelty and personal aggression against vulnerable.
If you lack the courage to do that, which I suspect you do, you should step down right now because I’m just going to keep saying this in public until you resign or explain.
You’re going to own this, Mom 4 Liberty, until you just go back to being a mom. You may have some actual parenting work to do now. And good luck figuring out next steps as a wife.
We are ruled disproportionately by horrible, abusive people like the Zieglers because too often normal, decent people shrink from what’s necessary to do when Ziegler types reveal their awfulness to us in ways that make them vulnerable.
We miss too many chances to purge predators from positions of power because most people are just much nicer than the Zieglers. I like to think I am, too.
A nice, normal person rightfully pities the Ziegler children — and finds the whole sordid world their parents inhabit difficult and unpleasant to engage. But I’m imploring normal people to engage it.
These people are predators — in virtually every sense of the word. This moment should purge them both forever from our lives. Don’t shrink from it. Do what’s necessary.
It’ll be good for Bridget and Christian Ziegler, too, in theory. It seems the best thing they can do for their children now is retreat from the public sphere they’ve worked so hard to pollute.
Go focus on your children, Zieglers, not ours. It seems you have a lot of work to do.
I am no fan of Bridget or Christian. I've spoken many times at school board meetings and had published LTE against her policies and questioned her conflict of interest, school board and head of the Leadership Institute. However, these accusations don't quite pass the smell test. Dirty tricks are alive and well. Easy to accuse. Difficult to prove. However, the damage is done. Suppose they are found innocent. The initial schadenfreud may backfire.

While Ms. Ziegler may not be guilty of a prosecutable crime, the harm she has done to millions across the nation for her targeting of the LGBTQ+ community, the push to enact the so-called "Parental Rights" or Don't Say Gay bill, and other chilling legislation while at the same time taking the word hypocrisy to new heights, she has no business on the school board, especially now.
She owes not only Sarasota an apology but the nation, and she should ask for the forgiveness of the millions she has harmed. She and her husband need to withdraw from politics and take care of their children.
