Lie down with Nazis, Nathan, and you wake up with swastikas on you forever

Another how-it-started, how it's going situation.

Little Nathan Register was so proud. His summer intern project for Melony Bell had just convinced four babies and a (confessed) felon on the Polk School Board to end 25-plus years of School Board proclamations because they’re afraid to say they don’t like gay people in public with formal votes.

Nathan took to Facebook (or something similar) to celebrate with fake magnanimity his Pyrrhic victory over a bureaucratic word susceptible to a billion loopholes that creative people can and will exploit. (The only thing that ended Tuesday night was Justin Sharpless’ dignity.)

This does not mean that they do not care. This does not mean that they hate anyone. I believe those that supported this did what they believe to be right. You do not have to think the same way to still be a good person. I have no animosity toward the board members who voted against this. I have no animosity toward those that spoke out against this. We simply do not agree and that is okay. We do not always have to agree. I feel bad for those that believe those of us that supported this did so will malice in our hearts. Both sides of this issue voted the way they did because they believe they are doing what is right.

Well, life comes at you fast, Nathan. Guess whose side this guy was on. Yours. I’m sure his commitment to anti-divisiveness put him in that seat. I’m sure he didn’t read any of your exhortation emails or posts.

The Nazi and Lisa Miller, just two good Americans, who happen to fall on the opposite side of a complicated issue, right Nathan. Both sides. LOL.

The reaction to the Nazi boys by Polk County’s “respectable” GOPers was pathetic and cowardly and a harbinger of the pathetic and cowardly proclamation “battle.” This lameness was the best Rep. Scott Franklin, R-Matt Gaetz could do after a couple days of public prodding.

Our Constitutionally protected right to free speech doesn’t shield people from parading their stupidity. But as Rush Limbaugh said, ‘The First Amendment doesn’t give anybody the right to be heard. People don’t have to listen to you.’ The more oxygen we give to the more we fan their flames.

Well it turns out that James Ring, Scott’s campaign manager and aide, was another key commander in the “Battle of the Proclamations.” James is a decent guy, at heart, I think. So maybe here’s a chance for some redemption. Maybe he can say directly and publicly:

Nazis suck, CCDF CDF sucks, the 9/12ers suck; and I’m sorry we stirred up these losers and gave them a target with our weak-ass political stunt. It wasn’t what we intended. But give us a little credit — at least the white shirt thing fizzled out.

Anyway, the road to hell is lined with Nazis who feast on the shameless, selfish intentions of the “respectable.”
