The De-shittification Society: first meet-up Saturday at 11 a.m.
Come hang out at the Pressed book store/coffee shop in Downtown Lakeland -- and then check out the Farmer's Market.
This is just a reminder that I’m convening the first ever meeting of PE1’s De-shittification Society this Saturday at 11 a.m., at Downtown Lakeland’s Pressed book store/coffee shop.
What, pray-tell is The De-shittification Society? Well, here is a two part explanation.
There is one extended upside to living in shitty times: endless opportunities to de-shittify across a wealth of private and public and civic and personal dimensions. (I, for one, am reading actual books more than I have in a while. The Moon is Down and re-reading Intruder in the Dust are my most recent.)
Re-invigorating personal contact with decent people, friends, and friends-in-waiting is another. While MAGA Fluids and fake Christians walk away pouting, terminally bitter in “victory,” from conversations with me about their moral responsibilities and citizenship, other relationships (including with real Christians) are blooming and deepening.
Accordingly, I want to meet and spend person-to-person time with folks who have come to share this digital community. I want to learn more about your projects, your interests, your humanity. And we’ll see where that leads in terms of action and citizenship.
But for the purposes of Saturday, I just hope to see some folks and have a hang.
Lakeland’s wonderful downtown Farmer’s Market will be all around us, providing before-and-after entertainment, if you need additional motivation. I’ve had pretty good expressions of interest. We’ll see who can actually come. I’ll be happy with one other person. Everything good starts somewhere.
i wish i had transportation to lakeland! if you ever do a tampa meetup let me know and i’m in.
Wish I wasn’t so far away.
