Glad that the voters of Jefferson County chose the candidate who truly represents them. What happened to Jefferson County schools under the leadership of Richard Corcoran and Manny Diaz (and their minions) is a disgrace. We need real representatives, like Alison Tant. And thank you Billy for your reporting about Jefferson County. No doubt it made a difference.

As we mentally process the election results, there’s an important fact to keep front and center - the popular vote totals. While it may be a while before the numbers are finalized, right now (11/7), it appears that Trump got somewhat FEWER votes than in 2020 (72m vs 74m). There was no massive shift - no “red wave” - sweeping the country. The big difference is that 81m voted for Biden in 2020 while only 68m showed up for Harris. The about 13 MILLION votes that disappeared - a “blue flu” if you will.

While some of that was surely due to active voter suppression, I suspect that most was self-suppression. The fight got too tiresome, too much manure to be shoveled, and a lot of voters quit. They stayed home.

This is not a condemnation, but a recognition of reality. America has not so much embraced evil (although many voted to do so) as we have lost the will to resist it.

The thing to remember is the majority of her constituents and everyone's constituents voted for the abortion amendment and for legalized marijuana. It didn't hit the 60% threshold but don't they represent us? Isn't that how government works no matter what you represent the will of the people? Well, and my Kiwanis Club I learned that they don't represent the people. They represent their religion and their morals. It doesn't matter what you want and the majority of their constituents.

This needs to be the cattle call in the next election. We must convince everyone that they Don't Care about Us and they do not represent us and they will tell you straight out they do not represent you. They represent their religion, saying that their God doesn't believe that you should vote for this and they're morals.

Good article. Right on in your analysis.

Even this part, Al? “More on this later, but if Trump and Elon actually follow-through on their quite explicit promises to crash the stock market by destroying everything MAGA depends in the federal government and raise prices radically, simultaneously, a shit ton of MAGAs will finally get to feel the lived experience of MAGA in a way likely to dent the anonymity of party and identity. The distance between reality and abstraction will be annihilated.

And there will be no libs to save you this time — like Allison and Jackie did for Jefferson.

We’ll be too busy trying to save ourselves — but not too busy to say we told you so.”

I don't know if I agree with the characterization. However, a reduction in Federal spending absolutely impacts aggregate demand and parts of the market will contract. So you're not wrong in what you are saying when you get behind the rhetoric.

We’re not talking about reduction. The promise is destruction of spending plus intentional price hikes on basically everything

We'll see to what extent the "destruction" or "reduction" of aggregate demand happens. But any way you want to slice it, that is going to create short term pain and ripple through the economy. However, increasing Federal spending at the same time the Fed is trying to tamp down demand to fight inflation has not worked out. The Fed has had to raise interest rates higher than it otherwise might have to offset that. At least Fiscal policy will be in concert with Federal Reserve policy. BUT the dislocation won't be pleasant. And there is NO DOUBT that Tariffs ALSO raise prices in the short run. I'd love to argue with you on your basic premise, but you just happen to be right.

Thank you Billy for your journalism, you are a true light in times of misinformation. Jennifer Canady spent $666k on her campaign to hide from her forced-birth legislation. I will continue the fight in Tallahassee as an advocate and ally for many and will become her worst nightmare. I thought about sending her a bouquet of pantygrams but chose not to. She is a coward and has blood on her hands!
